Stair Whispers

My owners arriving in the morning, insecure steps of a visitor, the postman, that nice girl tumbling down to lock her bike and up she goes again. I know the steps of every person, I sense the rhythm and the flow of this building, but they don’t. Heavy doors separate me from their workplaces. When they open, we are connected, just a second and that was it.

STAIR WHISPERS subtly informs you of people arriving, leaving and passing. Each step of the stairs is connected to one motor of an array. Every step on the stairs is traced with the use of a Kinect. The moment someone hits a step the corresponding motor spins. The result is a visual and auditive flow, mimicking that of a building. It acts as a messenger for someone to arrive and leaves a trace whenever someone leaves.
